SNOWFLAKES

I have been reading a lot online about “snowflakes”. The political right loves to call progressives “snowflakes” as a way to discredit them and suggest they are delicate little souls who melt if you breathe on them. The people who say such things are clearly southerners. Those of us who live closer to the pole than the equator know better. An individual snowflake is delicate, beautiful, one of nature’s miracles. But snowflakes in numbers, and they usually come in numbers, are another thing altogether. Snowflakes close down cities, they break trees, power lines, and roofs. They sink ships. They carve down mountains and create open plains. Nothing can resist a one mile high wall of snowflakes. They change the world. They even dent the earth’s crust with their weight. Snowflakes create lakes and rivers. They make soil that is fertile for new growth for hundreds or thousands of years. So to all my fellow “snowflakes” embrace the term. In your thousands and millions you can and will change the world. To all those southerners….Winter is Coming!

First blog post

“Write a blog.” says the chorus of friends and families.   So, despite a sneaking suspicion that they are hoping that by encouraging me to write they are hoping it will discourage me from talking, with trepidation I embark on this venture.  I read…a lot.  To quote from Desk Set  “I associate many things with many things.”  I see patterns and trends that I am sometimes frustrated that others are ignoring until smaller issues have grown into huge ones.   In my opinion we spend much to much time arguing about issues that have, de facto, already been decided and that this clouds our vision of the very big issues facing us in the future.   I will try to break the arguments and facts down enough to be easily followed and stay interesting.    Probably I will fail sometimes but try to bear with me.   In all honesty sometimes I will say somethings just because I have been wanting to say them to someone or because I think they are really fun.   Hey I am human.   I hope you enjoy this journey with me.   Let the adventure begin!
